What telepsychiatry is
Telepsychiatry is psychiatric care delivered over a secure video connection. At this practice that includes new patient psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management, for conditions such as depression, anxiety, and ADHD. Appointments are booked online, intake forms are completed in the secure patient portal, and you can message the office there between visits. The only requirement on location is that you are in Missouri at the time of your visit.
Who it helps
People in small towns far from a psychiatric provider, and people in St. Louis, Kansas City, or Springfield who would rather skip the commute. Parents who cannot easily leave the house. Anyone whose schedule only opens up in the evening or on a weekend. People who feel anxious in waiting rooms. And patients who are more comfortable speaking Russian, since visits are available in English and Russian. Curious how it compares? Read telehealth vs in person psychiatry.
Your first video visit, step by step
Book a time online, then complete the short intake through the patient portal. At your appointment time, find a private spot with good lighting and join from a device with a camera and microphone. A few things make video run smoother: use a wired connection or sit close to your router, close other apps that use your camera or streaming video, allow camera and microphone access in your browser, and use an up-to-date Chrome or Safari. The visit itself is an unhurried conversation about your story and your goals. More detail is in what happens in a first telepsychiatry appointment.
